Hymns For Guitar - Inspirational Arrangements for Fingerstyle Players
Traditional hymns, with their resonant melodies, rich harmonic structures and deep messages of faith and inspiration, have been joyfully passed down through the ages. Pete has taken seven carefully chosen pieces and has arranged them for intermediate fingerstyle guitarists. These beautiful songs of faith can be played in family gatherings, worship services, solo performances or in any other setting.
Pete shows you how to find the melody notes, then works through the chord inversions, harmony lines, bass tones and other elements that fill out the instrumental arrangement. Many of these songs are set in dropped D tuning to bring out the sonority of the guitar's bass strings. Each one explores a different "feel," from a Travis steady-thumb style tune with jazz-like chords to a gorgeous Celtic melody played in both fingerstyle and flatpick versions.
You'll soon be playing stunning arrangements of: I've Got Peace Like a River; Blessed Assurance; Holy, Holy, Holy; Redeemed; Be Thou My Vision; From Every Stormy Wind That Blows and Abide with Me.
Pete Huttlinger's Wonderful World of Chords - A Video Library of Chord Shapes, Exercises and Progressions
Get ready to give your left hand a workout! Pete Huttlinger has created a "video chord library" that's a must-have for every serious guitarist. This crash course is designed to show you all the important chords and fingerings you'll need, from the easiest shapes to some challenging finger-twisters.
Pete has developed a unique and effective study technique he calls “Say It and Play It.” This is an powerful way to memorize root notes by playing chromatic scales and applying chords to the root location. It's like your personal GPS system on the fingerboard, helping you lock in exactly where you need to be on the neck.
The lesson grows in complexity and sophistication, leading to chord changes for "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "All Of Me", as well as tips on all kinds of music - from folk and blues to pop, country and swing. As you play exercises and progressions that make use of these positions, you'll be on your way to becoming a well-rounded guitarist with a world of chords at your fingertips.
Arrangements for Solo Acoustic Guitar
When you hear Peter Huttlinger on recordings or in concert it's no mystery why he won the National Fingerpicking Competition in Winfield, Kansas, or why he is quickly becoming a powerful force in the acoustic guitar world. Pete's picking is clean, soulful and, at times, blazingly fast. Whether he's playing his arrangement of a classic pop tune or one of his own compositions, listeners are inevitably startled by what they hear.
Pete starts with the lyrical Lennon/McCartney tune "And I Love Her," played on a nylon string guitar. This richly textured but relatively easy piece will get you set up for the challenges that follow. Next, Pete takes the classic Steely Dan song "Josie" and builds up a powerful rendition complete with moving bass parts, jazz chord formations and a funky groove that doesn't quit. Then it's on to "Brown Bomber," Pete's fingerpicking tour de force that will give you an incredible workout while you learn cascading runs across the entire range of the fingerboard. Switching to a flatpick and DADGAD tuning, Pete teaches "Catch and Release," the title tune to one of his popular CDs and one that is rich in a variety of ear-catching guitar sounds.
As you've come to expect, Pete's teaching style is clear, methodical and personable. He imparts musical knowledge and playing tips while going through these show-stopping instrumentals. This lesson will provide months of intense study and dramatic pieces to play.
Arrangements for Solo Acoustic Guitar, Volume 2 - 2006
An engaging and accomplished instructor, Pete brings his spectacular playing to learning fingerstyle players with dramatic performance pieces that are as challenging as they are fun to learn.
Pete starts out by teaching his Merle Travis-inspired chord/melody arrangement of the great Gershwin tune I Got Rhythm. His exciting version features lightning-fast fingerpicking and a total left hand workout.
Things calm down a bit as you learn Pete's somewhat easier “Chet-style” fingerpicking tune Darcy's Guitar. Then you're off and running again, this time with an in-depth teaching of Pete's most requested tune, the showstopper, The Santa Rita Connection.
McGuire's Landing in DADGAD brings us back to a mellow Celtic mood. Tommy in the Morning, written by Pete for fellow fingerpicker Tommy Emmanuel, and the lovely hymn On Eagles' Wings, played in James Taylor's evocative style, round out this terrific DVD lesson.
Essential Exercises for Fingerstyle Guitar
An accomplished fingerstyle guitarist needs to have full control of his or her picking hand along with a complete knowledge of the guitar fingerboard. Peter Huttlinger provides you with the advice, practice routines and exercises that will enable you to play with good tone, strict timing and confidence.
Pete makes this important topic fun for guitarists at all levels. He starts you off with more than a dozen picking patterns, each one using a different combination of thumb and fingers on various strings. These exercises create a solid foundation that will help you with every piece you play, regardless of style.
Moving to the left hand, you’ll learn arpeggios and the “spelling” of chords, as well as Pete’s foolproof method for learning every note on the fingerboard. Chromatic scale exercises up and down the fretboard will work wonders for strength and agility in both your right and left hands.
Finally, Pete puts all these exercises into practice with a bouncy bossa nova chord and rhythm progression and a gorgeous arrangement of a classical piece, "Romanza." This DVD will give you months of material to work on, and Pete’s regimen will make you a stronger, better player.
A Guitarist's Guide To Better Practicing
Pete Huttlinger's amazing guitar technique didn't just happen. He developed it over the years, enhanced by good practice and exercise regimens. As a guitar teacher with more than sixteen years experience, Pete knows that the most important thing that players need is guidance in their practicing routine. He has seen guitarists playing a piece for years, making the same mistakes over and over without knowing how to fix the problem.
Now, with this powerful lesson filled with invaluable advice and insider's tips, you can increase your guitar skills and perfect your playing style through proper practice routines. You'll learn how to isolate the problem phrases in a piece of music, use a metronome to build solid rhythm, increase your picking speed (flatpick or finger style), train your "muscle memory," and, perhaps most importantly, learn how to manage your practice time for sure results. Pete provides numerous scales and exercises to help you gain fingerboard knowledge, strengthen your fingers and develop right and left hand coordination. Finally, you'll put it all to practical use by learning to conquer a dazzling instrumental, The Monaghan Jig, taking it apart phrase by phrase using Pete's practice method.
This is a lesson that will benefit all guitarists. Whatever level you are starting from, you'll see the quality of your playing grow by leaps and bounds, and you'll get more pleasure from your music making.

Brazilian Christmas - 2005
Folks Brazilian Christmas is an absolutely beautiful CD that I am very proud to have played guitar on. It features my friend Lori Mecham on piano along with rhythm section and strings. But my guitar is also featured on several tunes. I played for several years in a Brazilian Jazz band with Lori and her husband Roger and this CD shows why this music will last forever. This CD represents one of the many things I love to do when I'm not making my own records or doing my own concerts. I don't advertise many things that I play on but this one really longs to be heard this Christmas season. Listen to The Christmas Song (mp3).
