Pete, I'm new to your web site and want to thank you for the John Denver and Jim Croce instructional DVD's on Homespun. Your teaching techniques make it easy for the "hobby" player like me to learn and enjoy some great songs. Do you have an instructional DVD on Jim Croce's "Doesn't Have To Be That Way?

Pete, I missed your appearance in Woodstock Illinois on the 23rd. You, Muriel Anderson, and Ed Hall just 20 miles from house and I couldn't get tickets! $18 bucks for a ticket! In this day and age that's unheard of. Imagine Led Zeppelin 20 miles from your house for $18! Hopefully you will be back in the Chicagoland area. Happy Holidays!

I bought your "Guide to Better Practicing" from Homespun Tapes and think it's great....except one thing. In trying to learn Monaghan Jig, you do what you call "the groove" on the DVD, but that part is not included in the tab section....bummer. I am trying to pick it up from the video, but I seem to be missing parts of it, and you go over it pretty quickly. Is the "whole piece" available. I would be happy to pay for it, but I do wish I could learn it the way you play it. Thanks a bunch. Buster Hoffmaster

I turned to the fellow behind me and said "Do you see what he just did? Isn't that amazing?" and he said "No, no I didn't. Nobody can do that. It's impossible." Then we both grinned, feeling like some of the luckiest people alive to be at a concert in Texas where you were performing, Pete. Show those folks at Carnegie Hall what real guitar players can do!

Hello my friend,

You simply amaze me and I can tell you're still playing that guitar. I believe you should really consider playing full time and for a healthy income so we don't have to eat late night snacks at the Cracker Barrel.

We still practice guitar up here in Louisville. Did you know that? And the guy's still chat about you from time to time. Some of them caught you on TV playing guitar for some blonde headed girl. Someone said it was Kitty Well's grand-daughter, we don't know.

We did decide that you looked good on TV, and clean up pretty good also. Everyone sends their love of friendship, and all say hello to Erin. Always remember your roots, eat healthy, go to bed early, get plenty of rest. And don't forget to change the strings on that "Stella" guitar your playing.

We hope to see you up here in Louisville,(SOON). If you need a "Tomtom" or A "Garvin" location finder we will take up a collection and mail you one.

You just be careful out there and take care of yourself. If you should need strings, thumbpicks, straight picks, capo's, straps, new coat, food, ect, ect, you just let us know. For after all, where still you most humble friends. Alex Dunn and "The Kentucky Thumbpickers & Fingerstyle Guitar Club.

Hello Pete! Ron and I just loved watching you and LeAnn in Abbey Road a few nights ago. We Tivo?ed it (is too a word) and watched it a few more times since then. I actually ordered the Sundance Channel just to watch that show. Ron asked me to tell you that he is sad because now so many people will see how good you two are together and you?ll be so busy on the road with her that we?ll never see you again. I told him we could still lure you (pun intended) with promises of free fly fishing. Ever think of an ?unplugged? type CD with Miss Rimes? We are trying to get to Nashville for your concert with her in September. Hope to see you there!

Hello Pete, I shop at your brothers' market and he knows I play lead guitar in a Beatles band in the city (The Final Four, bad name but I was the last to join so what can I do). Your brother was always talking to me about it and also telling me about you. He told me I had to look you up. I am glad he did. Your brother thinks alot of you. I can tell by the way he talks about you. You have worked hard to get to a good place, I am sure. It's funny, people don't understand how much work it is to get to a spot in the music business that you can live (well?) but after 42 years of bands gig's and travel, I can feel good seeing someone that makes a good life out of their music. Well, Beatles recording studio, that's cool - very cool. I would like to get to your August clinic if I can get away that weekend. I had dealings with Chet Atkins, and stole as much as I could from him (not as much as I needed). Did you work ever with him in Nashville? Did you know Claudette in the office? I hope to see you sometime. Until that time, keep pickin'. Richard Stanton CGP

Pete, it was a true pleasure to meet you last night. It was a wonderful thing you and all the others did for Chris. I know you get this all the time but this was my first time to see you live and, well, you are totally unbelieveable! Sherry and I enjoyed the entire show but you especially. I have a challange for you or maybe I should say, a huge favor to ask. I told you last night about Chris reworking Dad's 1927 Martin 000-18 and getting it back to him a week before he died. Was wondering if you would consider writing a song for dad's memory and maybe record it playing his old Martin. I know its a lot to ask but its just a thought. Dad was Rupert. If you want to consider it let me know and I'll bring the Martin to you. One more thing, please let me know of any time you may be performing within driving distance, we're just outside of Huntsville, Al. I'd love to come. Thanks much Pete

The John Denver discs are terrific, as is the Jim Croce. Hi Pete. I love the new look and the feel of your website. It looks like your friends at Thistlehead Software are doing good things for you. I know you get a lot of requests to be in so many places, but my plea is to say it would be great to see you someday here in SW Ohio. I am working on promoting you to people I know and would like to see you show up at some nicer venues in this area. It would be great to get people here to find out what they are missing by gaining a better appreciation for fingerstyle guitar playing. It seems that all I find around here is either rhythm acoustic, lead electric or classical guitar instructors or players. I would love to find local fingerstyle players to partner with. Oh yeah. If you take up Alex Dunn's invitation to the KY Thumbpickers Club in Louisville again or get in touch with Palmer Moore at the Ohio Fingerstyle Club in Columbus, I would don't mind traveling to either place to see you. Palmer is having Richard and Julie Smith on March 10th and he seems to get quality players every few months. Richard and Julie actually have family members here in Dayton and will stop in the area and play at some local venues here. Last year my wife and I drove all the way to Baltimore to vacation and to listen to you and Tommy Emmanuel play at the college there for Jeff Auen. It was well worth the drive time and I met great people while hanging out with and the gang at Jeff's place. Always wishing you the best. I have never been to Colorado before so Dena and I actually flying (not driving) to Aspen in October. If we can't hear you here we will hear you there.

Hi Pete, Nice to hear your new sound samples; thanks for sharing them. Can't wait to hear the new CD. I just checked out your "What Pete Plays" page and noticed that you have gotten a couple of new guitars. How about adding a couple of pictures and/or sound bites from each? We'd love to hear what you have been doing with them... Best wishes, David

Hi Pete,
It was really great to finally get to see and hear you in person on December 1 in Dana Point. And great to meet you also. Amy and I flew down that evening just for your show and it was incredible. I think you are the best!
We bought a little puppy while waiting for the flight back on Saturday, named him "Petey" in your honor. He's got a page at if you'd like to check him out.
Thanks again, hope to see you again soon!

Well let's see a photo of little Petey...

Hi Pete, Happy New Year. I attended a workshop you did at Charlie's Guitar shop in Dallas a couple of years ago. I recorded the session and sent you the CDs. Of course you were amazing. I've now relocated to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Norfolk, VA Beach, Newport New, Williamsburg, etc) you have any plans to do anything in this area in the coming year? Best regards Lee Harper

Pete, I'm sorry if this has at some point been asked/answered, but is there any place I can get mp3s (or any sound file) for the various songs and exercises in the "Tablature" section of the site? I learn a lot faster if I can hear something. By the way, I think your arrangements of "Tis So Sweet..." and "Amazing Grace" are two of the most beautiful sacred interpretations I've ever heard. You're an inspiration, thanks.

Hey there! All the best in the new year. I'm curious as to what finger picks you use. On the "Learn to Play John Denver" DVD, it looks like you have on some type of press-on nails and a standard thumb pick. Is there a standard, quickly removable type of fingerpick you could suggest? I don't want to lose the "touch" of the string from my finger tips. Thanks.
