Pete, Just discovered you yesterday on YouTube. WOW! Thank you for making your instruction available for free to those of us who are financially challenged. Though I'm not too proud to beg, and I see what a busy artist you are, could you post more of these? This is the only way I can further my abilities fingerpicking guitar. The sign on the front of our refrigerator reads "No Whiners!" I'm not whining, just being honest. For years I have wanted to learn fingerstyle guitar. The Happy Traum work on "Don't Think Twice" was my first inspiration, along with "Operator" by Croce, and many more I could list. Suffice it to say that since health issues give me tons of time to practice, I now consume as many YouTube lessons as I can find. Thank you for being a good person and an artist without mega ego. Come down South sometime. Keep on Pickin', Tony Simpson St. Pete, FL

It was very nice meeting you at UNH on Nov. 15th. Your show was amazing. I told you real quick about fly fishing in Grand Lake Streams, Maine.. when I caught those 10 salmon. If you have time you shoud really take a trip there, it is beautiful! I'm sure you will be inspired to write a song just being there. My first time going there was a couple months ago this year and I did not want to leave. The fishing is awesome! I wish you the best in every thing you do, and keep catching those fish! Also, was really turned on to your Stevie Wonder CD and was blown away again. Any chance of publishing a tab of "You Are the Sunshine of my Life" so that I can buy that two? I agree with Indiana Mitch on the Croce DVD. I have only been playing guitar for 2 years, picked it up in Tennesee on my 40th birthday and mainly bought it to play Croce songs. I would never have learned those songs properly without your DVD. The 36th anniversary of Croce's tragic death is Sunday, Sept. 20th. I hope to see you in Cincinnati on the 26th, maybe you can play a tribute. I'll be wearing my T-shirt from Croce's Restaurant. Anyone fan can order them online at I would like to pick up one of your T-shirts and additional instructional DVD's if you bring them.

Pete, I see that you have a couple of inspirational hymn cd's. I think it would really be great to take the songs from the cd's and make them as instructional dvd's. I would hope also that you would make it down to Houston Texas sometime. Thanks.........Jimmy.

Funny you should mention that, Jimmy. I just recorded a new DVD for Homespun Tapes featuring Hymns from the two book/CD projects I did. I did not teach exactly what I played, instead decided to show some options of how you could approach playing these hymns and then the book/CD sets will just expand on that. That way it's not presenting the same thing over and over and over again.
I also recorded a volume II of Jim Croce songs.

Dear Pete,
Boy am I glad that my Dad invited me to the International Guitar Festival in Hersbruck, Germany, on August 19, 2009. Think I have to make up a new word for how special it was to get to listen to such an exquisite and wonderful guitar player as you are. Simply "phantamazingly", "delighterrifically", brilliant :-) I felt like I was hovering 10cm above ground and you get so many different genres of music under one hat (from blues to country) and no this hat is definitely not too big for you - on the contrary - it makes you incredibly versatile!
Well, that night I got 2 CDs of yours (thanks for your signature) - the perfect music for any time of the day - music filled with emotion combined with extraordinary technical skills - just as it was said about you before: like a mini orchestra all in one. Thanks for sharing your magnificent music and your wonderful attitude - it's pure joy and brightens my day. Keep it going!

Good morning, Mr. Huttlinger, I just want you to know that you've made me a better guitar player. I'm also a drummer and singer, but if I had to choose just one, I think I'd have to pick the guitar. I discovered you when I decided I wanted to be able to present Jim Croce songs in a way that did those songs justice. From time to time, I'd hear someone cover a Croce song, but usually those performances didn't seem "right" to my ears. Well, once I purchased your Croce instructional DVD, I understood why. Now, when I sing "I Have To Say I Love You" or "New York's Not My Home" listeners really perk up and listen, and I know it's because of the "little" nuances and patterns that you provided in that Croce video. Since that time, I've purchased another half-dozen of your teaching DVDs and I look forward to absorbing as much as I can. I've never seen you live, but I've watched you a great deal, thanks to YouTube. God willing, I'll be driving the 150 miles or so to hear you play the evening of September 11th in Wisconsin. I can't think of a better way to honor 9/11 then to participate in the freedom I enjoy as an American and enjoy the liberty of driving any car I wish, to anywhere I wish, to hear any musician I wish, with any companion I wish. God bless you, Indiana Mitch "There are few things more wonderful than a beautifully made guitar"

Pete Just back from Copper Mountain. Really enjoyed your MC ing of the clinic, your comments and your playing. Loved the old Kingston Trio song you closed your set with (can't remember the title). I had hoped to see you on the Sunday as I was going to ask you (a) where I can buy a thumbpick that is not too stiff and not too floppy and (b) where I can get tablature for the Steely Dan song you played so beautifully. Hi,Pete, My husband and I really enjoyed your music and watching you play at the Walnut Valley Festival 2008. Hi Pete, love your music. I read you take your AER amplifier everywhere you go. Do you check it as luggage in some kind of a case or do they let you carry it onto the plane? When I tried to fly with it a few weeks ago in Nice, security did not let me pass with it because the magnets in the speakers projected a big black spot on their screens. I hope you make to the South France once, cause I would love to see you live. All the best Heinz

Hi Pete,
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the show on Friday night in KC. You, Jim Curry and band with the KC Symphony conducted by Lee Holdridge... wonderful show! Watching Lee conducting John's songs again was really fun and nostalgic. I can remember seeing him when John did the "Evening with John Denver" Tour back in 1975. Amazing!! One of my favorite all time concerts of his. I'm pretty picky about who I'll listen to singing John's songs but Jim Curry and band did very well. Always love Richie on drums!! I got goosebumps for you after McGuires Landing, you may be use to standing ovations,(which wasn't an easy task that night) but those were my hometown people appreciating what I've been loving for many years now in Aspen at the JD events and on your cds. Your playing is so amazing and a gift to watch and hear, (great backup vocals too... especially on Yellowstone!! :)
So thanks again, and was good to see and talk with Erin too, she's a hoot!!
You guys take care, have fun, be safe and come back soon!!! Until then, see you in Aspen!!!

Good morning Pete. Great show last night in Wichita. My son and I saw you live for the first time several years back in Winfield. We knew we wanted to see you again. Last night was perfect since your venue was very near to my home. We are glad you pulled out the banjo for a couple of tunes. My son is a jazz banjo player so it was an unexpected treat. I will also mention that your e-mail campaign works. It was due to your e-mail that I learned about your performance for the 19th. Keep up the great playing because we intend on continuing to listen. Oh, by the way. What was the name of the last song you played; about a bull? The chord run is awesome and would make a great study. Best regards, Lance

Hi Pete, I just finished working through the Gordon Lightfoot material. What can I say - Excellent stuff, especially for we canadians that have followed the canadian legend in his own right for quite some time. Gordon has put out so much material and I was wondering if a volume 2 has ever crossed your mind? Pieces like Don Quixote and Waiting For You would do him good justice and also put a big smile on my face whilst I add these to my repetoire of songs I sit back and entertain myself with during those cold canadian winter nights. Keep on Pickin' & Grinin' & thanks again for all the quality instructional material. Lee Bergmann

Hi Pete, I think you might have already mentioned something about this, but do you have plans to put out music/tab for the tunes on your new Stevie Wonder CD? I know, I'm a glutton for guitar playing punishment! :-) I just ordered the CD and can't wait to hear it! The samples sound great. Regards, Pete Smith

Hey Pete, I've only just spotted your reply regarding the typo that crept into the I've got a Name tab. Thanks a million for your advice on how to play that E note. Incidentally, I've since learnt Photographs & Memories - so I'm making slow but steady progress! What a knockout arrangement, love it. And I've even gone and bought a G7th capo as you suggest in the dvd - terrific! Some people are wondering if there's another Jim Croce dvd in the pipeline. Well that would be fantastic, but even better if it were to include some of Maury's beautiful songs from Gingerbreadd/Before the Ever Since. Best wishes Marc

Hey Pete, I've been working on your Jim Croce dvd. Thanx a ton for that! I've actually figured out a few others like "Dreamin Again" and "Walkin Back To Geogia" which I owe to your instruction. I'm hoping a volume 2 and even volume 3 is in the works? Jim and Maury left us so many treasures. I can think of several that would surely be appreciated by his, and your fans. Lover's Cross and Alabama Rain for instance have proved more than a challenge. Any chance we'll see more Croce dvd's? Best wishes bri

Dear Pete,

I've just got your Jim Croce dvd and am thrilled as I'm a big fan of Jim and Maury. I've eagerly started learning one of my favourites, I've Got A Name. Because I'm lefthanded I can't recognise the chords you play easily and have to rely very heavily on the tab, which has got me stumped - in the sixth bar of the tab it indicates fingering an E on the second string, 5th fret for the A/C# chord but unless my eyes are deceiving me you don't hold down that note at all. Can anyone help? Thanks!
It's great just watching you play the song of course.
Kind regards

You have found what we call a "typo." Those awful buggers sneak in there when you're not looking and attach themselves and they just won't let go. Play that E note as the 1st string open.

Hi Pete Firstly I wanted to let you that that your DVD's have really helped me improve as a player, I didn't seem to be getting far before going through your lessons and was really inspired after seeing you live a few years ago. I was wondering if there will be a tab book for 'Things are looking up' and do you have any plans to come back to the UK for some shows? All the best Graeme

Hi Pete - what is the chances that we might see another instructional dvd for Gordon Lightfoot songs. I would like to see you do "Affair on 8th Avenue", it is my favorite song of his and would love to be able to play it.
