Pete, my entire group of 17 buddies missed you tremendously at Winfield this past Sept. You have been an inspiration to all of us, in both a musical sense and you courage during your current hardship. I wish you health and happiness for the upcoming year and will say a few prayers for your recovery....and that you can say very soon..."Things are Looking Up."........By the favorite...."Thirty Feet of Ireland."

I got my copy of The Black Swan last week and I haven't stopped listening to it in my car yet. I'm addicted! I have friends who want to listen to it but I just can't part with it yet. I may just have to buy a couple more CD's and give them to my friends. Thanks so much for the music!

We really enjoyed the wonderful music on Friday night. It really was worth the drive from Ohio to see you playing again! It was fun to see Hillary clogging and to hear all those stringed instruments played so well. We loved listening to Black Swan all the way home. Hope every day gets better and better for you and Erin. Looking forward to hearing you again soon. Linda & Bruce Sterling, Hudson, OH

Dear Pete, I have been a fan of yours for a VERY long time!!!! I got into your guitar playing back in the 1970's through John Denver - whom I first saw in concert in Atlanta, Georgia in 1973!! What a very memorial concert - seeing John, Dick Kniss and Mike Taylor on a stage!!! And since I attended 23 John Denver concerts over the years - you were there for most of them - it was his music as well as yours - that inspired me to start playing a 6 and 12 string guitar in the early 1970's!!!! And yes of course they are both Guilds (G-40SB and FX-212XL)!! It has been a true labor of love and a joy in my life and I really have YOU to thank!!! I am nowhere near as good as you are - but I can read music (2 years of trumpet lessons at the age of 10) and I am sure that I love playing my guitars just the same!! I have been design computer systems since 1974 not quite as exciting as being a traveling musician but it works for me!!! I just wanted to thank you for all of the joy you have given me over the years!! I just love your finger picking it is like no other!! (and curse becasue I cannot do it!) What I would give to have your hands for just one night just one magic set!!! I can THINK those beautiful melodies that you play and that is OK for me. I should be up to your level in about 75 years or so if I practice a lot!!! Just as God gave John Denver that perfect voice God gave you the hands to make your beautiful music. Thanks for the smiles you have given me and the memories and the many times I have closed my eyes when listening to your music and found myself swaying and smiling!!!! As the Irish would say - "Eye laddy, usefull, that!" And I am sure that I am NOT the only peson to attend a LeAnn Rimes concert - jus to see and listen to her guitar player!!!!;-) All the best to you and your family - in your long and happy future!!! Keep picking - I do appreciate your work, your genius and your dedication to your art!! And I look forward to your music - that is to be!! Jeff

I've been playing your arrangement of "What Child Is This" this holiday season (with substantial improvement in my tremolo). Thanks for all that you do. Your talent has brought me hours of pleasure. Here is hoping that your health continues to improve and that you'll be up to doing a works shop at The Music Emporium in the future.

Your John Denver Dvd was the first lesson I used to learn to play the guitar. I decided to learn to play at the age of 46. I had just had a Heart Transplant at St Lukes in Houston by Dr Frazier. Thirteen years later I am doing really well. Please feel free to contact me for if you have any questions about transplant or challenges you face. May God bless you as he has me. Thanks for all the lessons and best wishes toward your future health.

Pete, I first became aware of you through Homespun, your John Denver instrutional videos. Since then I have spent a great deal of time on line looking at videos in admiration of your talent while working with John and as a solo artist. I have played guitar since the age of thirteen, I'm now sixty-four, but what you do with a guitar is way out of my league.I pray that God be with you, your family, and everyone involved in your medical care in the coming future. You are a great representative for Collings guitars.

Pete, I was reading Acoustic Guitar magazine, and saw a guitar for sale, which, if purchased, would result in $1000 being contributed to a fund for your medical expenses. At the time, I didn't know you were ill, and I quickly searched for more information on the Internet. I am saddened by the news. I have learned so much from you about Dan Fogelberg's music via Homespun, and appreciate the education I received. I hope to send you some music files of me playing his music. In the meantime,I noticed you played last night for the first time in awhile. I hope it went well for you. Please take care. I will track what I hope will be a successful recovery.

Pete, I just learned of the tough times you've had these past months. I was fortunate to spend five days in your fingerstyle class at the Swannanoa Gathering a few years back. I learned so much, but mainly I came away with a renewed joy in making music. John Denver was a huge influence on my early playing, and you've been just as big an influence on the guitarist I am now. I love your arrangements and play quite a few but have put off taking on Superstition, thinking it would be more than I can handle. I'm starting work on it tonight after reading about your battle. There's nothing wen can't handle with enough determination, prayer, and devotion, right? You are in my prayers, Pete. You still have much music left to make!

Dear Pete, I saw you playing for the first time in Soave (Italy) in 2006 and I appreciated a lot your style, so proficient and soulful. Then I saw you another time in Soave in 2010 and I appreciated you even more. Meanwhile, I bought your Jim Croce's instructional DVDs and I liked also your teaching style, precise, patient and communicative. So, I would like to thank you for the endless, beautiful hours that I have spent in my room with my guitar, away from the chaos of the world, learning or re-learning Jim Croce's timeless songs. I wish you that your health problems will soon be solved and I hope to see you again, playing guitar for us in Soave. Best regards Giampaolo Venturini

Dear Pete - I've noodled with the guitar for years but decided to get serious this year. I've used your Homespun Practice tips and I've just purchased the sheet music for When the Sun Breaks Her Silence - a beautiful, sweet song that I can actually play sort of/almost though very slowly. I've been inspired by you and I hope to do this song justice in 2011. I'm saving my pennies for a Collings Signature OM too. I really hope you're getting better. Pete, I've been hearing about your condition, but only now contacting you. I hope everything goes favorably. It must be very tiring for you. You've certainly made a lot of friends with that guitar of yours. I enjoyed the recollection about the guitarist who played on J. Denver's record. You might be surprised at how much pop music from that era I like. There was a lot of melodic content, harmonic interest, hope and meaning in the poetic lyrics, instrumental ability, vocal talent, and collaboration between songwriter, arranger, producer, instrumentalists, artist. I know we played some dumb gigs together, but I'm glad to have had at least that experience with you. My brother is quite a gtr fan, and I will let him know about you. Good luck, and I hope to hear you soon

My brother Carlyle[who signed in earlier]got me onto your stuff a couple of years ago. We love Jim Croce (bought the DVD) and actually played "our" version of his "Photographs and Memories" at our Dad's funeral in August '09--dad was a photographer as is Carlyle and it helped tremendously to have your teaching style on the DVD. I recently notified my brother that you are not in the best of shape. Just remember a couple of things: you are not in charge; others have had what you have--maybe worse--and came out great. There is a kid on the PGA tour who has WON (Erik Compton) and he has had TWO heart transplants. I myself have had 3 valve replacement surgeries and it did NOT hurt my picking at all! God will be with you and the family-- and I put a little something in your "kitty" and will order another DVD from your "Hymns" collection today. BE WELL. Thank God for his gifts. You have used them wisely.

Hi Pete: I´m a freelance music journalist, full-time high-school teacher (not of music, but of German and English), and fingerstyle guitarist who admires your intelligent playing that always comes across with a graceful sense of melody, with delightful clarity and unbelievable ease. You and your Collings guitar make some of the most lovely sounds to be heard on this planet. Your versatility is breathtaking, and as a long-time fan of Jobim, I´m stirred to tears by your rendition of "A Felicidade". I have reviewed several of your instructional DVDs on Homespun Tapes for the magazine run by Peter Finger. I´m really shocked by your health problems that I learned about only last night surfing the internet (ironically just hours after my own heart had been screened with an ultrasonic device to make sure my spell of dizziness earlier this week wasn´t a sign of upcoming serious problems), and wish you the very best for a speedy and full recovery. Although, given our current financial situation, my wife will probably kill me for the sheer thought of doing such a thing, I am in fact thinking of buying most of the CDs in your store plus a couple of songbooks to support you and see you through these hard times. There are only two things I want you to do if you ever feel you should thank me once you are better, Pete: 1. Please do put out a solo DVD of yourself in concert (or something in the vein of "The Guitar Artistry of..." DVD series that Stefan Grossman produces) - and 2. Come to our part of Germany (hundreds of kilometers away from the place your ancestors came from, unfortunately, but nevertheless in a beautiful region of forests, castles, romantic small towns, lovely rivers, and vineyards) to play in some exceptional venues and perhaps even at our school. But we can discuss all these things as soon as you are well again.

Pete, I am saddened by the news of your health issues and you are in my prayers. I first heard you in person at the JD Tribute (#11?) in Aspen, then later at your workshop in Longmont, CO. I just attended the CO Music Hall of Fame concert with the hope of hearing you play again. I've purchased the Homespun tapes and value you as a teacher as well. You have a remarkable talent, a more remarkable spirit, and an even more powerful God. You have a great deal of support from your fans and you have many praying for your full recovery. I am in both groups. Dave Christiansen

Pete, I pop in every once in a while to see what you are up to, where you'll tour (if you are). I am saddened to hear about your heart condition and pray that you find a solution soon. I read some of the signings and it seems you have a lot of prayer going your way. I sincerely hope that works for you. I wanted to thank you for the John Denver DVD's as well as the finger picking and others. I have enjoyed learning from you. I hope everything works out for the best for you. God bless.

Pete - When I first met you in Akron, OH, I was taken so much with your talent, but the thing I remember most is how open you are to others. I got that from you immediately. Then when I participated in your class at Fur Peace, it was obvious that you delight in sharing the gifts that the Lord has given you. I pray that the Lord lifts you up and that he continues to use you as a light. Here is a prayer for you. Father, we know that you are the Great Physician. I ask for nothing less than a healing. I pray that you keep Pete in Your hands and help him to persevere through this challenging time. May Your Grace be upon him. May You guide the hands of the doctors as they work Your miracles in his life. May he know Your love throughout. I ask this in the name of Your glorious Son, my Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Pete, I just wanted you to know you're in my prayers daily. You're a treasure to the guitar world and to music. I've always admired you as a player and now, I especially admire you for your courage and determination. There are so many guitar players who've been inspired by your gift of music and the spirit and energy in which you play. You have that edge and "ooomph" that little players have and I so appreciate your cross-genre approach to playing music which is 'out of the box' so to say. This e-mail goes further than appreciating your music but I appreciate you for being a great person. I pray that God will 'fix you' and bring healing and strength to you. (Psalms 73:26) If this takes a miracle, I'm agreeing with you in prayer. (Mathew 18:19) He's still the "Great Physician". Sincerely, prayerfully....and especially your friend, Doyle Dykes

Pete-- I saw you for the first time at Roaring Brook in CT and was blown away!! I started playing at 12 years old and desperately wanted to go to Berklee but was convinced by my elders to take a more traditional path of education. Soon the guitar was put aside and the years past.I'm now 59 and before I saw you perform I was really missing my connection to music. Seeing you was instrumental(no pun)in pushing me to make this happen.I have begun lessons with a great player and am trying to give myself a break as I relearn. The reason I'm telling you this is to let you know that YOU and your music make a real impact on the lives of all who listen. That's a real gift! THANK YOU!!!! Wishing you all the best. Get well! Pete, I am so very sorry to learn about your latest situation. I had a bad heart attack (are there any good ones?) and open-heart surgery back in 2000, but I can only guess at what you're going through now. I really surprised some of my friends when that proved I actually had a heart. Anyway, please know you're being prayed for at this time! I am still working through bits and pieces of the tunes in the Peter Huttlinger Collection....but Superstition....whew! Hey, Pete, I heard you at the Jim Curry/Knoxville Symphony concert last Saturday. Of course I loved it, and as soon as I got home I found McGuire's Landing on the internet. I was blown away when I listened to a number of other songs on YouTube and your website. My thought: How could they possibly limit you to one song during ANY concert? Oh, I forgot. They couldn't turn you loose on Superstition during a John Denver gig. I'm certainly glad to see you'll get back here to play in Maryville. I'll be there with bells on. (Actually, I plan on wearing more than that. Gotta be careful with such sayings.) Another reason I'm being so bold as to write to you is that Todd Cerney was a friend of mine from college. I'm wondering if you've followed Kit's posts on CaringBridge. Her eloquent writings during the last months has been both beautiful and heartbreaking, and those of us who loved Todd were able to travel on his final journey through her words. It just doesn't seem right that we'd lose him so fast. Well, I'll not take up more space. Can't wait to see you in Maryville if not before. Keep bloggin'.

Pete, It was such a pleasure to finally meet you and Erin and to hear you play live Friday night at Kim's house! What a great evening of music!! We had to drive from Wheeling to Philly the next morning to visit with our daughter and that gave us plenty of time to thoroughly enjoy the three CDs that we purchased on Friday (which we needed to complete our collection of Pete Huttlinger CDs!). They are GREAT. You are phenomenal at arranging and performing great songs on guitar and you inspire me to practice my guitar (with the assistance of your Homespun lesson tapes). We are so happy that you are "back in the saddle" after all of the health problems you had to endure last year. We will keep you and Erin in our thoughts and prayers.

Terrific show last night at Morgantown, WV's Metropolitan Theatre you made a rainy night much better, Congrats on your good health and return to performing. Enjoyed meeting both you and your wife after the show and for spending time to talk with the audience members. It was evident why John Denver asked you to join his last two tours-he recognized a remarkably talented guitarist when he heard one. Loved your descriptive lead ins to your performanced selections last night. The second one catapulted into the stratosphere with your technical ability and its multi layered /compliacted notage and divergent simultaneous musical lines and rhythms.Anyone who enjoys good music and fine guitar should definitely go to see your show when it is in their area-it is an evening one will not soon forget. Hope to attend your next Morgantown WV performance soon! Superstition was a phenomenal demonstration of superb guitarist artistry /talent. Also loved the final John Denver selection , even though John never had chance to create accompanying lyrics- another excellent piece of guitar musicianship!

I am sitting here watching you backing John Denver on the concert that OETA, our PBS affiliate has played for festival(fundraiser) for the last several years. Wonderful work and well recorded. I have a question about the Taylor Jumbo with a medium dark stained flame maple top that Mr Denver played on Rocky Mountain High. If you remember that instrument, do you know if it was a production model or a custom shop guitar? It also appeared to have mahogany sides? I've always heard that Maple guitars we great for studio work, usually Gibson or Guild Jumbos in my "day". Have you found that to be true? Hope this finds you well and Winfield-fit.

Hi Pete, Hope you are doing well. You are in my prayers and may God bless you immensely. I have two questions: 1)I have been trying to find an arrangement to My Cherie Amour with little to no success. Could you offer a lesson and/or sheetmusic/tab to the version that you do? 2) I presently play a Guild dreadnought and I have read that most fingerstyle guitarists stay away from big body guitars like jumbos and dreadnoughts. Is there a better TYPE of guitar(not necessarily a brand) that is best to play fingerstyle? Thank you and keep on pickin'.

Hi Pete, I see that you are home after your stroke and are expected to make a full recovery. You are blessed. As we all know, major stokes cause death or can and do leave others less fortunate than yourself with major physical disabilites. You have been given another oppertunity to bless others with your music, and another chance to share your talents with other guitar players through your instructional books and DVDs' so they can furter bless others with songs that draw the mind to God. I encourage you to move even more into the sacred guitar arena both in performance and lessons, for you have been truely blessed. Praise God. Rick

Mr. Huttlinger, I'm sorry to learn of your heart condition but glad to see that you are feeling better. As you say, "things are looking up". Best wishes for continued good health. I have several of your CDs and books. After much effort I have learned your arrangement of Josie. It is always a hit when I play it for friends. I am still working on Superstition and hope to master it someday. Your Wonder CD is FANTASTIC!!! It's given me a whole new appreciation for Stevie's genius and your incredible talent for working out challenging tunes on guitar. I know it's a lot of work but is there any chance of you putting out a songbook of those great arrangements? If not, how about just one tune? If I had to pick just one it would be My Cherie Amour. I'd love to try to play it the way you do. Thanks for the great music and inspiration. Stay well!
