Hello Pete, I have been completely inspired by your first 4 DVD's of your teaching John Denver and Jim Croce. The way you teach not only tells the story of the song but also goes deep into each note of the music. I have also learned to truly appreciate the gift of the great artists John Denver and Jim Croce but more than that the supreme talent of Pete Huttlinger! Thank you for making these DVD's and providing me with an outlet which is greatly needed. I hope your 2014 brings you much deserved health and happiness. From Donna in Petersfield, England.

Hi Pete, I truly appreciate you for the John Denver tutorial DVDs! For a beginner like me, it's so cool and thrilling to be able to play the songs exactly like what I heard in the CDs... Though some songs are still too hard for me to handle (songs like "Tools" and "Today"), most of the songs are not so hard as I thought it to be. And I really like your teaching style! When I get back to hear the original records, I discovered something interesting - John often change the licks to the songs over time. They sound almost the same but I can find the difference when listening carefully. For example, in the original recording of "Windsong" from 1975, John plays the intro lick "6th string - 3rd string - 4th string - 2nd string", just like the way you taught in the DVDs. But in the versions from "Earth Songs" and "Unplugged" albums, it has changed to "6th - 2nd - 4th - 3rd". The same goes for the intro to "My Sweet Lady". Even the signature intro licks to "Rocky Mountain High" is a bit different between the original 1972 recording and the Wildlife Concert! I also found a video on YouTube recently, showing the differences in your guitar solo bridge to "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado" from various concerts. It's really interesting to find these differences - the slight differences I could never figure if I didn't learn to play the guitar. May I ask if there would be any more teaching DVDs of John Denver in the future? There are still quite a few songs I'd love to learn, such as "Catch Another Butterfly", "Flying for Me", "Is It Love", "Eagles and Horses", "I'd Rather Be a Cowboy", "Foxfire", and the lead guitar part to "Late Winter Early Spring"... Thank you very much! Another thing I must say is that I really admire you for your outstanding fingerstyle performances. Just saw a video of you playing a medley of Beatles songs with Tommy Emmanuel and Peppino D'Agostino... "Far out"! Oh, and "Monaghan Jig"... You make this nice little tune seem so easy to play, so I found the tabs and tried to play it... It's hard as hell!! It's really amazing that you could play it so easily. I really wish that I can play as well as you someday! If you'd tour Beijing someday, I'll definitely come to see you. A Happy New Year to you and your family. Hope this coming year bring you health and happiness! Best regards from China, Chien-Hsiung (Sorry for my bad English!)

Hey Pete, I got your "How to Play the Songs of Dan Fogelberg" lessons from Homespun and I'm re-inspired to practice more diligently. (I have focus now :)) I like your teaching style. Checked out some of your Youtube stuff - various lessons, performances, interviews and also your website and by golly noticed you'll be in Canada eh? In Victoria, BC yet!! Holy smokes I'm a stones throw away - just across the water! I'm gonna try, try, try to make it. Thanks again for the inspiration and great lessons.

Thanks Garry! Looking forward to meeting in person in Victoria!

Hey Pete - Love McGuire's Landing - wonderful!!!

Had a thought - every thought of doing tabs for JD's version of "Wish I knew how it feels to be free"? I have looked everywhere and yes- the chords are there but not the tabs. HE does an intro that I really like....would love it if you felt inspired to do that! If you still have it I love your free tab section:) I see you have a redesigned website - don't know if that is still there!

Oh yes, the FREE GUITAR TABLATURE is still there. Go to the homepage and then scroll to the bottom of the page.

Hi Pete, Just got my McGuire's Landing CD & book. You did a great job. I bought the songbook earlier, so I've got lots of work to do. Don't forget to arrange a concert here in Indianapolis at the new Paladium Center for Performing Arts in Carmel, IN. I'm planning on attending one of your John Denver weekends next year. I just got the tab book for McGuires Landing. I am currently learning "The Crossing" what a joy learning this beautiful song! Pete, if you quit writing today your legacy is sealed for me my friend. I have never in my life nor do I expect in my lifetime to hear a more stunningly beautiful song! I promise since I received the M.L. CD from you I must listen to The Crossing at least a dozen times a day. The way the Collings and the Strings blend together could not be more "heavenly". I have already told Ramona that I want this song played at my funeral even if I live to be 100. Lol. I truly mean that, it means that much to me.

I could only expect something so beautiful and heartfelt to come from you my friend.
May God continue to truly bless you and Erin
Barry & Ramona

Thanks so much.

Just wanted to let you know that your Tab for John Denver's "Late Winter Early Spring ( When Everyone Goes to Mexico)" has caused me to pick up the guitar again after 30+ years of rust. Man, I always loved that piece, so its a great motivator at this point in my life to play more. I was surprised to read that the late Mike Taylor was so humble about his work on that recording, back in the day I just about wore out that track on the album listening to it over and over. An added bonus is being able to work through it bit by bit with my 18 yr old son, who is trying to seriously spank whatever guitar chops I am feebly able to muster. Thank you for openly sharing the Tab, its a gift I cannot repay.

Dear Pete, I was delighted to see in a recent u tube video interview that you've got over your illness and are playing again as before. I still play songs from your wonderful Jim Croce lessons, and have to pinch myself, I can hardly believe I can play them - thanks to you. I was checking out some John Denver songs the other day and immediately fell in love with Darcy Farrow, which I'm now learning from your first John Denver dvd. You explain things so well that I've almost learnt the piece in a couple of weeks. You've also opened my eyes to the beautiful songs John Denver wrote, and I can't wait to learn more. I'm really looking forward to getting the Wildlife concert so I can watch you accompanying John. Thanks so much for being such an inspiration to us and for keeping the songs of Jim and John alive. Best wishes Marc

My husband walked into my office at home while I was playing James Taylor's "Like Everyone She Knows" and stated "was that ALL YOU playing??" Thanks to Pete's "James Taylor" class, I can now play this tune (and a few others), JUST like the JT CD's! This has been on my "bucket list" for so many years, but I never had the confidence (or patience!) to work on it. Pete is not only a phenomenal player, but his teaching skills are beyond reproach! I'm looking forward to taking his class in San Diego in February, 2014 thru Fur Peace Ranch. For anyone interested in Pete's classes out of his home in Nashville... GO...GO...GO... Erin and Pete put on a "class AAA" program and yes, the food is FABULOUS!

Hi Pete, I use to play in a folk singing group (Brandy Creek) in college during the mid sixties and have just recently decided to give it a whirl again. With the help of your four DVD's, I am slowly but surely learning some of John Denver's songs. I would like to learn "I Can't Escape". I have figured out the chords but the opening guitar riff eludes me. Can you give me any help with it? Best regards, Lyn Wheeler

Hi Pete! I also want to thank you so much for the Jim Croce CDs - mine was a Jim Croce Christmas this year :) and I got both of your DVDs. Already playing Operator, New York's not, Say I love you, Carwash... added to the ones I already knew I can play upwards of 8-9 of his songs. Now if I could just sing ;( I would always have thought of Operator as something beyond my ability (based on the sound from the record I guess), but you are a born teacher and I can't tell you how happy I am that I stumbled onto your CDs. Thanks so much! joe

Hi Pete, I just wanted to thank you for the Jim Croce videos you created. I bought both of them, but the first one is my favorite, because of the excellent tunes. I can' t believe it, but I'm now playing J. Croce tunes and sounding GOOD! It's honestly a dream come true. Thanks!

Pete, I just want to say that you've been an inspiration to me several ways. First, your unique and beautiful quitar compositions and arrangements are just simply some of the best i've encountered on the web. I'v tried some of those websites, like and others, and each time felt disappointed with the material available to me to learn. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I was introduced to your music by instructor who started me on "Get a Klugh". I love that piece, but after hearing some of your other works on this site, I was convinced I wanted instruction from you personally. I can definitely say that these DVDs, your method of instruction, along with Guitar Tabs is worth all the money I paid for them. I plan to be your regular student to be sure, because I do feel that i've already gain alot by purchasing my first DVD. I was surprised how easy you made "And I love her" by the Beatles. I am still working out the kinks in my playing, but for the most part I've learned the whole piece. Thanks to your method of teaching. I know "josie' is much more of a challenge, but I know I can do it. You've given me a renewed confidence!! Thank you so much Pete! You are an awesome guitar player and composer! God Bless as I forward more of your great instructional videos.

Hi Pete - i would just like to say that i have found your music and guitar playing very inspirational and after a long time not really knowing my direction to take from playing classical and pop music i find your style includes both in a unique style. It has revitalised my interest and i enjoy listening to your music and following your instruction dvd's. I just wish that you might one day be able to come to England to do some concerts. Looking forward to future recordings you may have in the pipeline.

Pete, I just wanted to say thanks for putting on such an amazing show with John Oates this past Friday in Shelby. Not only are you an excellent, excellent (I had to say it twice) guitar player, but very witty and an inspiration as well. I've been raving about your six string wizardry to my guitar playing friends ever since the show. Keep it up and please, come back to see us. I'll take you out for some western style barbeque at Bridges. Your mouth will thank you. Seriously, despite our short debate, I think we both agree that NC as a whole knows how to do BBQ right.
